The following email was sent to Planning & Zoning alternate commissioner Melinda Yale by Ward 3 councilmember Sean McCoy. Allow me to highlight his horrific grammar - reminding that he is a self-described "educator". Also notice the condescending tone to this voter and constituent:
Mrs. Yale,
I am concern that with your stance on this subject. You must excuse yourself when development issues concerning affordable housing come before Planning and Zoning as a commissioner with this stance documented here. You are to act quasi-judicial regarding these types of issues. I expect you to remember
that point and represent the city under that pretext or excuse yourself. Do I make myself clear? I was very concern when you were appointed that you wouldn't be able to understand that point. I am sorry you are not writing the City Council with that issue in mind. I expect you to excuse yourself if this comes to P&Z!
Sincerely,
Mr. Sean McCoy Longmont Coty Council Member Ward 3

...and Mrs. Yale's response:
Councilman McCoy:
How sad that as a teacher you do such a poor job with the written word when
it comes to sentence construction. And the word is recuse; not excuse.
At this time the subject of zoning for affordable housing is not anywhere
close to something P&Z will be looking at so are you telling me I am not
allowed to speak about something that I and the people I know probably have
more actual knowledge of than you do? Furthermore, neither I nor anyone in
my family has any financial interest in the affordable housing program or in
land that might be used for such and certainly have not gotten any city
money from these programs.
Sorry you aren't concerned about the possibility of the city losing a
million dollars;that would help how many employees keep their jobs? Or for
that matter help what, 75 to 100 home buyers with down payment assistance? I
was concerned years ago when the city was putting $60,000 into Blue Vista to
help them out and find it even more worrisome that there is now somewhere
near one million dollars that the city could lose. I move in a different
circle of people than you do and the people I hear from are concerned that
the city has put itself in a position to lose quite a lot of money. They
are also concerned that naïve and unsuspecting home buyers may have been
taken advantage of with some of the programs that were offered.
All the people on the Planning and Zoning Commission received an email
asking us to consider volunteering for the Task Force being formed to
discuss the affordable housing situation. It makes no sense that I could
apply for and speak out on that if appointed but I can't communicate my
concerns to the City Council and City staff. I resent you or any elected
official abusing their position of power to attempt to intimidate me out of
exercising my freedom of speech.
By the way, what part of asking people to pay lot rent on homes they
actually own makes sense?
Melinda Yale

Arguing logic with Mr. McCoy is a pointless exercise, but I thought you'd like to see how he operates and that nothing you've seen on this blog and YouTube videos is an exaggeration.
